As another Australian winter settles in, we're dreaming of sun-drenched days on the Sicilian coastline with longtime friend of By Charlotte, Emily Yates.
From crystal-clear swims and leisurely afternoons fuelled by Aperols, pasta and gelato, to discovering hidden seaside gems, Emily shares her favourite places to stay, where to wander and how she spends the perfect summer day on the island.
Where is your favourite place to stay in Sicily? What makes it so special?
My favourite place to stay would have to be Tonnara di Scopello. Years ago, when we first visited the island, just before we got married, we stumbled upon it the week it opened to the public. We stayed there, and were the only ones there for the first 5 days. It was truly magic. Now I think it takes booking a year in advance to get yourself a spot!
What's one place everyone should visit while they're here?
I really love Noto! A little less touristy but really unique beaches!
Describe your perfect day here.
Wake up - swim all day long, punctuated only by stops for aperols, ice creams and pasta. Fall into bed when the sun disappears 💕

The best meal you've had so far?
This is a trick question because the answer is every single meal. If I had to choose, I couldn't. Every meal has been memorable in its own way.
What are your travel essentials for this trip?
Sunscreen is non-negotiable, along with a few favourite bikinis, my Kindle loaded with romance novels for slow afternoons by the water, and my film camera to capture all the moments I'll want to look back on.
What are you packing and wearing on repeat?
Kitten heels, my Sir the Label sunglasses, and my Rat and Boa skirts/ summer dresses!
If you could send us one postcard from this trip, what would it say?
If I could pull you through this postcard so you could hear and taste and smell what I am, I would xxx
