What is Gold Vermeil?

When it comes to investing in long-lasting jewellery, gold vermeil is both a premium and affordable option. Often mistaken for gold-plated pieces, gold vermeil offers a much higher quality and durability that makes it ideal for everyday wear.

What Is Gold Vermeil?

Gold vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a premium method of gold plating, defined by international standards, where a thick layer of solid gold (at least 10k and 2.5 microns thick) is applied over a base of sterling silver.

By comparison, gold-plated jewellery features a base of just 0.5 microns of solid gold.

At by charlotte, we use 18k gold, and each piece is crafted by a Responsible Jewellery Council-certified manufacturer to ensure quality and longevity. When properly cared for, our 18k gold vermeil pieces can sparkle forever.

Gold Vermeil vs Gold-Plated Jewellery: What’s the Difference?

At first glance, our gold-plated and gold vermeil jewellery might look similar, but the quality, durability, and value of gold vermeil makes it a premium option.

How to Store and Care for 18k Gold Vermeil:

Store in a dry place, ideally in a jewellery box with an anti-tarnish tab.

Avoid wearing your jewellery while swimming, showering, or exercising to preserve its finish.

Keep away from harsh chemicals, perfumes, lotions, and fake tan, as these can cause tarnishing. Always put jewellery on last when getting ready.

Avoid jewellery cleaning solutions and excessive rubbing with a polishing cloth, as this may wear down the gold plating. Instead, use a soft, dry jewellery cloth to gently polish and restore shine.
