By Charlotte Experiences Sound Healing

Last week the By Charlotte team had the opportunity to experience the magic of sound healing and meditation with Holistic Wellness Coach and Professional Meditation Facilitator, Alex Mumby.

The ancient Tibetan singing bowls produce beautiful sounds and vibrations when played which are felt within our bodies and energy fields, creating a calm meditative state.

Alex led us on our incredible sound healing journey through a guided meditation and then immersed us in the vibrations of the singing bowls with a sound bath.

After our amazing sound healing session, we sat down with Alex to learn more about her personal journey and sound healing rituals.

Tell us about yourself…

For the majority of my 20’s, I worked in fast-paced environments and companies such as advertising and TV production, executive assistant roles and high-end fashion companies.

Although I had a lot of fun during this time, I reached a point of exhaustion and was seeking a different way of life. After moving back to Sydney from busy London, my journey took a turn and I went to study holistic wellness, meditation facilitation and sound healing
I now find myself sharing my knowledge and experience through meditation and my love for sound healing.

What is your star sign?

My star sign is Taurus, Virgo moon and Gemini rising. So quite earthy.

How did you discover sound healing…

A dear friend of mine introduced it to me when I was living in London where life was crazy busy. I fell instantly in love with the medicine.

What is sound healing and how does it work?

Sound healing is a form of meditation offered through a variety of instruments and voice, where these frequencies and vibrations have an impact on our internal and external states. To give you a little scientific explanation of what is exactly happening to our bodies is that when we are presented with healing sounds, these sounds are penetrating our whole being at a cellular level.

As the sounds hit our eardrums, the vibrations convert into electrical signals which are converted via neurotransmitters to thousands of cells. These then move into our brain stem, healing and balancing our systems mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Your system becomes entrained with the harmonising instruments being played.

What are the benefits of incorporating sound healing into your life?

Sound healing can help with a number of issues such as sleep issues, anxiety and depression, chronic pain, and can assist with healing deep trauma. Sound healing is also a beautiful and harmonising modality to heal and balance your day to day life.

I have personally used sound healing for my issues with Polycystic Ovaries, PTSD and sleep issues.

What can one expect during their first sound healing session?

Everyone is so different and can experience different outcomes for their first session. It is likely you will experience physical and mental relaxation and some may go deeper to experience emotional releasing and rejuvenation. Some people can experience profound spiritual messages and journeys. You will be left feeling very relaxed at the end of the session.

What is your favourite affirmation/mantra?

I live my life by the affirmation “everything you need is inside you”.

Life can get complicated and overwhelming at times and we get lost in thinking we must search externally for happiness and stillness but really, we hold everything we need already within us. Life gets to be that simple if we allow it.

Another mantra I do love is the mantra from the Goddess of Compassion, Green Tara. Her mantra is "Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha" which translates to "I prostrate to the Liberator, Mother of all the Victorious Ones". Green Tara is pictured sitting on her Lotus flower with one foot still on the lotus and the other stepping off as a symbol of delivering compassion to others whilst holding onto compassion for herself.

We are so grateful to have shared this incredible experience with Alex and our team and hope that you are able to find balance and inner peace through the singing bowls.
